During a recent visit to New York City, I had the opportunity to visit the World Trade Center Site as well as the American Express Memorial: Eleven Tears.

Please pardon my poor photos. Of all times, I left my camera in my room and had to purchase a quick disposable camera.

My first stop was The Tribute Center, located at 120 Liberty Street, which offered a walking tour, exhibit and program.

Some of the world’s greatest minds in architecture are designing new skyscapes, landscapes and memorials to replace those that were destroyed.

This is the work that is ongoing.

I don’t know if you can see from my photos, but there are two big squares in the ground amidst the construction. They are similar to the ones in the model photo shown.

Eleven Tears

The American Express memorial to the 11 employees the firm lost on September 11 is in the lobby of the American Express headquarters at the World Financial Center across the street from the World Trade Center site. A 600-pound, tear-shaped Brazilian quartz, carved with 11 sides (one side for each employee lost), is suspended at the center of the memorial. The quartz hangs from 11 thin cables over the center of an eleven sided black granite pool. The names of the victims are inscribed on the sides of the pool. About every few minutes there is a water droplet from the 2nd floor which represents “tears”.

The Sphere

The Sphere once stood between the World Trade Center towers in the Austin Tobin Plaza, and today resides in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. The large metallic sculpture, created by German sculptor Fritz Koenig, was commissioned by the owner of the World Trade Center, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in 1966. After September 11, 2001, the sphere was recovered from the World Trade Center site. It remained structurally intact, but visibly damaged. On March 11, 2002, the sphere was re-erected and rededicated in Battery Park as a memorial to the victims of 9/11.

You Reap what you Sow

Greeting cards can be embellished with pretty little designs—but the fact remains that most are still just … well, greeting cards. Introducing the Postcarden, a pop-out card that transforms into a mini garden.

Combining gift and greeting card, Postcarden is available in three designs: Allotment, City and Botanical.

You open and unfold the card, then sprinkle water into the base and scatter the enclosed seeds onto the damp paper.

The Postcarden will start to grow in a few days, and will keep for two to three weeks; once grown, the seeds can be eaten.

Designed and produced by UK-based A Studio for Design, the cards can be sent through the post. Each card costs GBP 7.50 ($11.32 USD) and has enough space to write a personal greeting.

My Darling, My Hamburger

Rosemary and Chris were able to creatively showcase their love of books and music with the help of Meg from Meg Perotti Photography. Her work is amazing, might I add. She took their vision and turned it into a creative work of art for their engagement photo shoot.

Chris works in a library and is a musician while Rosemary is a writer and editor. They actually rented a U-Haul van to bring their own furniture pieces and favorite books out to the location. I am digging all the props used to make an outdoor living room and musical instrument setup in the woods.

I need her little black dress with the ruffled flower stet.

My fave.
